Bilting is a small and vibrant hamlet on the A28, 6 miles north east of Ashford midway between Ashford and Canterbury. It is set on the south east facing slopes of the Stour valley which flows north to Canterbury.

Why Live in Bilting?

Records of Bilting go back to the Domesday Book. It is now part of the same parish and community as the nearby village of Godmersham famous for Godmersham Park House once owned by Jane Austen’s brother, Edward Knight. Jane Austen’s novel, “Pride and Prejudice” depicts scenes and characters from the local area.

In recent times Bilting was known since the 1930 for Bilting Mushrooms. Today the mushroom growing units have become storage and industrial units, and the south east facing fields have become vineyards which are also tourist destinations.

The area is well supplied with footpaths and the much used North Downs Way and Pilgrims way runs higher up the valley along the edge of Kings Wood above Bilting and Godmersham.
