Beautiful Priory & Manor House
Bilsington is a small tranquil crossroads village perched on a hilltop with wide open views over the Romney Marsh below and towards the English Channel. Its very special character and history is protected by a large conservation area that extends beyond the village. The village has an active church and pub, a much-used cricket green with an amazing view, and a 58 ft high obelisk monument to a former local landowner and philanthropist, William Cosway.
Why Live in Bilsington?
Bilsington is famous for its priory – stunningly beautiful stone buildings that were an Augustinian priory, mentioned in the Domesday Book as owned by the Bishop of Bayeaux. The priory and the park around it are now a venue for weddings and conferences, and also much used by the community. In addition to the original crossroads houses the community has gradually and carefully expanded with newer properties.
Hamstreet is only 3 miles west past Ruckinge and has a rail station (8 minutes to Ashford), village shops, a school and restaurants. Tenterden is 13 miles west with its wide range of shops and tourist attractions, museum and several schools. There is a regular bus service each way. Ashford is just 8 miles to the north, beyond Bonnington and Aldington villages.
