Where Are Ashford’s Two-Bedroom Homes?

Two-bedroom homes make up a significant part of the housing mix in Ashford, but they are certainly not spread evenly across the area.

The map above shows the percentage of households with two bedrooms in different parts of Ashford. The darker areas indicate neighbourhoods where two-bedroom homes form a higher proportion of the housing stock, while the lighter green areas show places where they are less common. It gives an interesting picture of how Ashford has developed over the years, with some neighbourhoods clearly having a very different mix of homes to others.

Across the country, homes range from one-bedroom properties through to larger four-bedroom-plus homes. Interestingly, two-bedroom homes are the second most common bedroom size, only just behind three-bedroom homes.

Of course, the appeal of a two-bedroom home can vary enormously. For one household it might mean a main bedroom and a child’s bedroom. For another it could mean a spare room, home office, guest room or simply that little bit of additional space. That is why maps like this are fascinating. They do not tell us whether one part of Ashford is better than another. They simply reveal how the type of housing changes from street to street and neighbourhood to neighbourhood.

And perhaps next time, we should look at where all those three-bedroom homes are hiding.
