High Speed rail link boosts local economy

Kent residents will be well aware of the ongoing construction of a high speed rail link, connecting High Speed One (the new name for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link) and London St Pancras. With vastly reduced travel times, there is expected to be an influx of London commuters moving to Ashford and the surrounding areas when the rail link is opened in December 2009. Gould and Harrison, who specialise in national home relocation, have been working hard to ensure a smooth move for these new residents.

Nigel Gould, senior partner at Gould and Harrison, commented: “With the market as it is, we suspect that many London commuters will see early 2009 as the perfect time to move out of the city to a more affordable property. We welcome this migration and the associated injection of wealth it will bring to the area.”

The high speed rail link has been designed to speed up connections between the Capital and Europe. Consisting of 68 miles of track, it is the first major new railway to be built in the UK for over a century. A new fleet of 29 Hitachi Class 395 trains will be able to travel at speeds of 140mph, slashing the current journey times from Ashford to London from 83 minutes to 36.5 minutes. It means the commuting times between Ashford and the City will be the same as many Greater London residents.

Nigel Gould said: “Although many Londoners love the hustle and bustle, many city workers live in London out of necessity. Given a choice, they’d probably prefer to live in a more laid back location like Ashford or the surrounding areas. The high speed rail link makes this a reality.”

Part of the movewithus network of estate agents, Gould and Harrison specialise in relocation services. If a London resident wants to relocate and contact Gould and Harrison, the agent’s movewithus connection means that they can be connected with an accredited agent in their area to facilitate their move.

Nigel Gould added: “This rail link has created a real buzz in the town. It’s not just great for commuters but for longstanding Ashford residents who can now enjoy the sights and sounds of their capital city in no time at all. It also means better connections to the North and Scotland.”
